Fennel

Otto Fennel, a designer starting at Breithaupt, founded a company in Kassel in 1851 to manufacture geodetic instruments and tools. In 1891, after the company was taken over by his sons Adolf and Otto, the name was changed to Otto Fennel Söhne. Adolf Fennel was one of the most important designers of geodetic instruments, he contributed to the modification of rotary dividing machines used to make horizontal and vertical circles. The company achieved world reputation after 1902. (In the collections of the Institute of Geodesy, Faculty of Civil Engineering, VUT Brno, there is a triangulation theodolite with a horizontal circle reading by microscopes with a micrometer marked Otto Fennel Söhne and the production date between 1910-1920, it was used in the construction of JTSK.)

In 1973 there were ownership changes and the company closed down; In 1977, the production rights were taken over by Theis in Wolzhausen and Führer & Co., which, since it was founded in 1965, focused on the development of modern measuring devices. In 1978, the company geoFennel was established in Baunatel, which operates mainly in the field of lasers and also offers geodetic instruments. Of its first commemorated constructions, are the pulse rangefinder FEN 2000 and the total station FET 2 with passive reflection.
